Time to Teach

Hey lovelies, halfway to the weekend already! Today I’m talking about the very start of some of this years plans.

Towards the end of 2017 I started to teach. As a home educating mum who happens to 20170213_101444995190863.jpgknit and crochet I have been asked a few times about teaching children yarn crafts. A couple of years ago when I was juggling a relatively new baby and had newly moved house, I did a handful of lessons back in the city we had moved from. This presented a few challenges that ultimately ended up in my having to discontinue them. Almost an hour travel by train each way, occasional missing of lessons by students after I’d arrived, the baby (who came with me at that point) turning into a toddler who didn’t want to sit still for 3 hours while I taught, and just life, all got quite hectic. I was quite sad, because it was something I enjoyed, and I did vow to restart local to me, where I could stay home if everyone suddenly fell down sick, or the weather was so awful noone wanted to attend. But, my fears and worries all kept making me put it off.

20171205_1122122128706627.jpgAround October last year, the mum of one of the children I had previously taught put a request out for knitting teachers again. Local to me, and having been a previous pupil, I decided it was the sign I was waiting for to get my at together and start again. So I did! This time with more confidence, not in my crafts, I have been doing those long enough to trust my skill, but in my ability to assist someone else to make something incredible.

In the meantime I had managed to teach one of my own children to the point she has finished projects and have had enough interest from adults to know once I have the resources adult lessons will be next. Yes, that’s right in a few weeks time I will be putting a call out for my first virtual, adult students to learn to knit or crochet.

Ahhhh, Getting Back into that Monday Groove

So, all the celebrations are over now, in the last 2 weeks two of my girlies have gotten a whole year older, and NOW I can get back into the normal routine of Home Ed, Working Mum, Housewife life. Phew!

want somethingYeah, that means my Monday is back to getting out and working in peace in a nice local coffee shop. No clingy toddlers, no kids spellings, no ‘mum, mum, mum, look at what I drew/wrote/watched.’ My days like this are fabulous as they give me space and clarity, allow me to write and plan and focus for the week. I’ve said it before, but I LOVE MONDAY! Changing that whole negative vibe most people feel for Monday is life changing, Go on, Try It!

Happy New Year 2018

Hey you lovely people, Happy New Year and Welcome to 2018!

I’m just popping in really quickly to wish you all a happy new year mainly, but also to share some of the first exciting news of the new year. I have so much planned for you all, for those I2K followers, customers and freinds, for those of you who love organic skin care and health care, and for those of you keen to learn new things.

img_20180103_094744_4401419709021.jpgWow, so much I need to finish writing the year plan out really, which I will when my new Goal Planning pages arrive from the lovely Natalie at Ultimate Success Planner. I’m going all out for both my businesses this year, and first up I am sharing news on Indigosky2Knit giveaways for the year over in my Facebook Group tonight. If you have missed the Live video, then it’s still there to replay and the counter is counting on who is most chatty.

I started a little last year with various things, working on my mindset, using some EFT, learning about where some of my deep seated pains came from. Is started to forgive more and more of my past, viewing all of the things that have knocked me down in the past as lessons that have brought me to this fabulous point in my life. Finally, there was starting training in aromatherapy and crystal healing, things that have interested me for a long time, but that now I want to explore and learn about more fully.

So Yeah, HUGE plans, all starting out or growing ever more. For now, thanks for being here and look out on Friday for news of another new thing ❤

Happy Holidays 

I know it’s been a while, December is always a bit manic for me. I always have lots of orders to fulfil, not to mention enjoying the odd Secret Santa swap and of course the need to shop for and have everything ready for family fun over the holidays. Oh and to top it off I have 2 birthdays for my girls in the 2 weeks following Christmas Day. I thinks saying it’s a bit manic is, in fact, an understatement!

This year I’ve gone into more of the Winter Solstice side of the winter  holidays than the Christian side, after all most Christmas traditions come from original Solstice and Yuletide celebrations. I’ve had a lovely time teaching my girls about Elen of the Ways and reflecting on the old year while we look forward to the new. It’s been our best and happiest Christmas since having children. 

As always I’ve been involved in making some lovely gifts for people, it’s always such a privilege to be involved in people’s special celebrations. I’ll pop some photos below and leave you all with a wish for happy holidays and a fabulous new year to come. 

I have great things coming in the new year. Some are super nerve wracking, some are going to be beautifully rewarding and some will leave me extra busy. All of them are greatly exciting.

Finding My Motivation

It’s been a while, I know, I have no excuses, I just get caught up in the ‘Busy’.

Well I’m back and here are a few things that have kicked me up the butt, and are getting my plans, and work, back on track.

Winter is always the busiest time for Indigosky2Knit, it’s something I hope to change over the next 12 months so that my summer orders equal my winter ones, but for now, yes people surprisingly want more knitted goodness in winter. With that influx of orders comes my hibernation, my not leaving the house because I have all these lovely things to create, and Christmas is looming (along with Small and Teeny girl’s birthdays) and I want to make them all the things too. I put unnecessary pressure on myself, I curl up in my ‘Troll Cave’ and stay there for days (quite literally).

Last week I realised something had coincided with this, this year. I generally avoid eating wheat for my own well being. I feel it makes me feel sluggish, tired and not to mention the havoc it reaps on my digestion. I generally try to eat intuitively, so if I’m feeling like eating some buttery toast, like the real stuff not gluten free, then I will. And a few weeks ago I did that, and basically haven’t stopped. I’ve kept saying to myself, well I really want it, so I’ll eat it. The amount increases and before I know it I’m eating bread with every meal, nibbling the family biscuits and not really tuning in to whether I really want it, like deep down.

20170906_111719.jpgFive days ago, I stopped! I said no more! I started to listen to more than my instant desire for the toast and started saying no! I already feel better inside myself. I have been able to get up earlier, I have been able to focus more and I have been more productive, not just in the creative side of my work, but in the networking, promoting and being open to working out how to accomplish my new ideas. In hand with this I stop self sabotaging all the awesome progress I have made in the last 3 or 4 months and am continuing on my path forward! Of course I will still get to eat cake 😉

One more thing I am determined to achieve, and today is a good day to start, is regularly maintain my journalling. Journal writing is a great way to find focus, clarity and to move forward, past emotional, mental, spiritual or even physical obstacles. I’ve realised a few things that have stopped me wanting to do this in the past, part of it my perfectionist ego, part of it fear and worry, but a fabulous Coach and Mentor, who I happen to personally know, has started an Intuitive Journal course for the next 7 days. I’ve started on that and will find the motivation past that time to keep on.

So, I’m back, and I’m moving forward ❤

Wool Nappy Covers

I’ve been saying I’ll speak about wool covers for cloth nappies for a while now, so it’s time to get down to it, and write something up.

The Magic of Wool

Wool is one of the most popular natural fibres around the world for clothing and soft furnishings. I’m sure everyone knows that it comes from these fluffy creatures. Many sheep are primarily raised for their wool specifically. And this amazing fibre has some remarkable properties. I’m going to list some of those below, and say specifically why that makes it great as a nappy cover.

  • It is anti-microbial
  • It is mould resistant
  • It is breathable
  • It is water repellent
  • It has balancing insulation properties
  • It is flame resistant
  • It is sustainable

There is probably more, but these are what I’m going to talk about here. Being used as a nappy cover means it is covering over nappies that, well lets face it, get peed and pooped in. Because it is antibacterial and anti microbial it doesn’t hold on to microbes and bacteria. It literally absorbs them, but doesn’t re-emit them. This is thanks to the lanolin and keratin, natural proteins found in wool. These properties also mean when it gets damp it doesn’t hold on to those microbes that cause other things to grow mould.

As a breathable fabric, wool literally allows any moisture that touches it to evaporate, so covering over a cloth nappy allows dampness that reaches the outside of the nappy literally come out the other side and disappear. Due to repelling the damp it feels dry from the outside (assuming nappies are changed at regular intervals of btween 3 and 4 hours maximum.)

So is it only suitable for winter? Well no, it isn’t. In fact even for children and adult clothing wool is super amazing. Due to the breathability and the fact it is balancing as insulation, it literally keeps you warm in winter, by insulating you, but in warm weather it allows you stay cool. Of course if you wear a chunky wool jumper in the hottest summer you’ll still get hot, but a light wool layer doesn’t make you too warm. This makes wool clothing over nappies for babies an awesome choice to keep them covered in the sun (Oh yeah it also filter UV rays!) but they won’t overheat. It’s also worth considering the option of wool, rather than synthetic blankets, based on this.

The fact it is flame resistant is self-explanatory really. While I don’t sell nappy covers specifically for night time use, many people do use them over night, and all the clothing and cover used on a baby while sleeping should be flame resistant (a fact to think about if buying or making acrylic baby clothes and blankets. If you see how acrylic melts and stick when you burn it, you think twice about ever risking that getting stuck to your, or someone else’s baby).

Finally the sustainable nature of wool. As many sheep are kept for their wool primarily, they are sheared annually over many years to obtain the wool, the wool used last an extremely long time, many people I speak to have had wool clothing for years, 50 or more not being uncommon. When it comes to nappy covers, well of course your baby grows, but covers will last subsequent babies, longies become board shorts or crops, boardies become shorties. This is why I ensure the rise is generous on my nappy covers as that stretches for a number of months. And when they don’t need the nappies any more? Well my Teeny girl wore her longies from 2 years ago as little crops in the summer just gone now she’s no longer in nappies. And to mark the release of this blog I am setting up a brand new Facebook group premarily for all hand knitted wool nappy covers to be sold, both brand new by makers, and preloved from all makers, the only condition is hand knitted ones only. I’ll add the link below.

October is here

Quite simply put, I love October, I love the cooler weather, I love wrapping up warm and I love the increasing longer nights.

Yeah, yeah I know, all that extra darkness, all that rain, all those cloudy days, but nope non of that dampens my love for autumn and winter.

For me this month means a family holiday, our first ever since having kids, that’s 8 years overdue, right? It means lots of work, because of course more people want warm gloves and scarves and hats, although I’m going to show you over the coming months just why you want knitwear in the spring and summer too.

So how am I going to stay motivated? Well aside from my awesome holiday, (did I mention that yet?) I have been working on self-love, particularly with the fabulous Mel Wells who wrote ‘The Goddess Revolution: Food and Body Freedom for Life’. Last week she held a Self-Love Week, where I managed to bring up some very raw feelings, feelings I thought I was over. I guess I’m still a work in progress though 😉 

self-confidence-2076799__340Still I have wrote out a fabulous meal plan from Deliciously Ella, so that I can start looking after my body with fabulous food, and I have vowed to do my MuTu System core workout daily.

Self-love, the key to showing the universe that you know you are worthy of all the good it provides.

Women in business

I have loads to say about this, but it reveals ‘stuff’, personal sorta stuff and life sorta stuff, stuff we really should talk about, but that we often don’t. I’m just going to scratch a very small surface here, as it’s played a massive part in my life last week, and is the cause each month on me hitting a ‘go slow’, a go slow I have struggled sometimes to get out of. Then before I know it another month has past and I’ve got nowhere. This changes, here now, this month (well last month actually) this has changed!

Women have cycles

So yeah, shocking news here, we women have cycles! Every single month we have changes in our bodies and hormones that cause changes, changes in our state of mind, changes in our feelings and emotions, and yes dealing with these around running your own business is sometimes more than challenging. Staying motivated, taking rejection, not feeling like curling up under a duvet with a good book or Netflix can be one of the biggest challenges around. Add to this having children around if you do, a partner, a home to care for, and sometimes it’s hard if you have a bad day to just get up and carry on.

I’m lucky I guess that moods and pain are not major issues with me (although you’d have to check with my hubby and kids, they may have a different story on the mood side, I will admit to having much less patience than I usually do 😉 ). However, it is still difficult to switch the mind off and to stay motivated, when seriously all you want to do, and really should be able to do, is chill, look after ourselves and take on that self care.

Working on it 

So here’s one of the many things I’m working on, knowing my cycle well enough to plan around it, how much work I have, what and where I share my work, planning family meals around it, so I can eat well, but make it as easy as possible to do so.

Stay motivated, keep looking at the good things in life, help everyone to see that there are good things in their life, despite the trials and worries, and be happy!

Motivational Monday

quote-1460228_640 I am keeping myself motivated for the coming week with some happy inspirational quotes, affirmations and thoughts and I want to share some with you all.

I have come a long way in the last 2 months in my own mindfulness and self care, and it is showing in my life, my house, my family and of course my businesses. I have been actively finding gratitude for everything, even for the seemingly negative, like drinking too much wine last night and staying up having a Facebook argument, oops! What do I possibly have to be grateful for, waking up late, with a toddler and 6 year old climbing on me fighting for cuddles, and a slight headache to boot? How could I possible find positives in that?

Well, just a few short months ago I’d have let that set me up for a negative start to the week, I’d have complained about it in a negative way and I’d have stated on my Social Media that that was just typical for a Monday, even though I always take time for myself on a Monday, I’d have still used it negatively.

chalkboard-1927332_640So how can I have found happiness and been grateful for the late start, headache and noisy shouting kids? First of all, 2 of my beautiful children were fighting over loving me! They just wanted to cuddle me so tight, and how can I not love and be happy about that ❤ The reason for the extra wine last night? Celebrating a HUGELY successful week, more orders in one week than I’ve taken since the start of the year, more opportunities for the coming week, and knowing this is only the beginning of my awesome journey into making life better for all those around me! I can’t help but be grateful for the slight physical reminder of how happy I was last night. And of course I have been out of that noise and chaos all day, so I made the most of the cuddles while I had them. I also got to eat the best hangover cure in my local town hall cafe, bacon, egg and mushrooms in gluten free bread, so I wasn’t going to be feeling any worse!

As for the Facebook argument? Well I’m owning that mistake! I am using it as a reminder that I should not be going on Social Media after I’ve turned my computer and got ready for bed, that one slip into an old habit does not mean I have to stop all my new habits and become my old self again. I am still making steps forward to a better, happier life everyday. One slip into an old habit, does not mean you’re screwed forever! Pick yourself up, dust yourself off, and carry on being the best you you can be, and then be even better!

Make sure you look after you, make your space bright and fill it with what makes you happy, whether it’s your car, your office, your kitchen, or some other room in your house, or even just your desk at work, make it so every time you see it, it makes YOU smile 😀
